Update on COVID-19 testing available in Eastern Zone, effective June 10

COVID-19 testing options continue to be updated in Eastern Zone. Testing people who show no symptoms of COVID-19 (asymptomatic testing) continues to be one of the main tools that helps limit COVID-19 spread. Getting a regular test and following public health guidelines will help efforts to contain the virus.

Effective Thursday, June 10:

NEW LOCATION – Savoy Theatre primary assessment centre, 116 Commercial St., Glace Bay
• Hours: Thursdays & Fridays each week, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., starting Thursday, June 10 & Friday, June 11
• Drop-in only
• All ages, for those who have symptoms, no symptoms (asymptomatic), have travelled or been to a potential exposure site and have been a close contact of a positive COVID case.
• Gargle tests are available for children and youth (ages 4 to 18). Children and youth must not eat, drink, chew gum, smoke or vape for at least an hour before the test.
• No rapid tests

DROP-IN OPTION ADDED – Antigonish Market Square primary assessment centre – 149 Church St., Antigonish
• Hours: Tuesday & Thursday – 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Drop-in or by appointment. Book at https://covid-self-assessment.novascotia.ca/en or call 811.

• Pre-booked appointments and drop-in; Please note: Drop-in testing is based on capacity. People are encouraged to pre-book their appointments by completing the self-assessment online at https://www.nshealth.ca/coronavirustesting. If you don’t have access to the internet, call 811.

NEW - Public Health Mobile Unit, Holy Family Catholic Church, 905 Main St., Sydney Mines
• Hours: Friday, June 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Pre-booked appointments and drop-in; Please note: Drop-in testing is based on capacity. People are encouraged to pre-book their appointments by completing the self-assessment online at https://www.nshealth.ca/coronavirustesting. If you don’t have access to the internet, call 811.

Important notes when visiting the mobile unit:
• Unless you have symptoms or have been advised by public health to isolate, you do not need to self-isolate while you wait for your results.
• The testing method is standard PCR swab or Swish and Gargle for children up to age 18. Preparation is required for gargle testing. View instructions at http://www.iwk.nshealth.ca/COVID-19/testing#gargle
• Please bring your health card with you, if you have one.
• You may have to wait in line outside; please dress accordingly.

FINAL DAY – FRIDAY, JUNE 11: Centre 200 - Rapid Testing pop-up site - 481 George St., Sydney
• Hours: Monday to Friday – 3 to 7 p.m.
• Drop-in only
• For those who are 16+, asymptomatic (no symptoms), have not been at a potential exposure site.
• No gargle tests available

NEW LOCATION – New Waterford Consolidated Hospital primary assessment centre, 716 King St., New Waterford
• Hours: Every second weekend, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., starting Saturday, June 12, & Sunday, June 13
