FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

YARMOUTH, N.S. – A hallway at Yarmouth Regional Hospital is being transformed into a gallery where patients, visitors and staff may discover and enjoy original works by local artists.

The new art gallery will be located in the first-floor corridor connecting Buildings B & C. Handcrafted pieces can be viewed in a display case in the main lobby.

The gallery project is called Du Coeur – From the Heart and is a collaboration between the Yarmouth Art Society, Yarmouth Craft Guild, Conseil des Arts de la Baie, Conseil des Arts de Par en Bas, the Yarmouth Hospital Auxiliary and Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA).

“We are very pleased to work with local artists and arts organizations to create an enhanced and more enjoyable hospital experience for our patients while developing new partnerships within the communities we serve,” said Peggy Green, health services director and site lead for Yarmouth Regional Hospital.

All artwork on display is for sale, and 30 per cent of the sale of each piece goes to the Yarmouth Hospital Auxiliary to support the purchase of necessary medical equipment.

“For over 100 years, the Yarmouth Hospital Auxiliary has worked with our community to raise needed funds to support patient care at our local hospital. Working with these local arts groups is an exciting new opportunity for the auxiliary and the hospital,” said Evelyn Myers, president of the Yarmouth Hospital Auxiliary.

The arts groups represent artists from Argyle, Clare and Yarmouth County. “This new gallery space will enliven the hospital hallway while bringing the original work of local artists to a wider audience,” said Margriet Knubben of the Yarmouth Art Society.

Art can be purchased from the hospital gift shop. All purchases are cash only.

An official gallery opening reception will be held in the main lobby of Yarmouth Regional Hospital from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Members of the media are welcome to attend.

Please RSVP communications advisor Fraser Mooney at fraser.mooney@nshealth.ca if you plan to attend the gallery opening.
